THE MINIATURE PHALAENOPSIS OR HARLEQUIN PHALS

Harlequins are diminutive moth orchids that grow in smaller spaces. The plants usually are 30-35cms in height and flowers are 4-5cms in size. These are strikingly small compared to the large phals which can be 55-90cms tall.

Warmer temperatures during flowering causes lighter shades and spots. Brighter light can cause spots to become smaller and darker. This is an interesting phenomenon linked to the genetics of miniature phals. Harlequins are ideal for indoor conditions due to their compact nature and the need for cooler temperature. Although these orchids doesn't need any special care they tend to require smaller pots. This brings the need for frequent watering just to keep the roots wet.
