Paphiopedilum insigne 'Sanderae': has green veins with purple specks on dorsal sepal. They are found in the North-east of India at high altitudes.

They're easy to grow in the home, under lights or in the greenhouse.

LIGHT Paphs like shady conditions. They require very less light and are often grown under the benches.

TEMPERATURE The temperature range for paphs vary considerably. Sanderae are 'cold loving' orchids, however could do well in moderate warmth.

WATER Paphs need constant moisture at the roots. They do not have pseudobulbs and hence store water in the leaves. They require a lower humidity of 40%.

FERTILIZER High nitrogen fertilizers (NPK 30-10-10) are recommended. It is advisable to flush with clear water monthly to drain off the excess fertilizer, which can burn the roots.

REPOTTING Bark, sand, sphagnum moss, etc could be used as the medium. Needs to be repotted every 2 years, for fully grown plants and yearly for seedlings. An average plant should have a 4 to 6 inch pot.
